A whole week had passed, Izzie wondered just how she had coped with all the drama she had been through.  The day after the blonde professed her love to Addison, the two women had set about arranging for Robbie’s transfer. It had been a tumultuous few days to say the least, Izzie having exhausted herself with her mother’s affairs, work and Addison’s visit. The redhead had been the perfect girlfriend and supported the resident in any which way she could, taking the strain when needed. The blonde had felt a surge of relief when her mother had finally left Seattle, she had also been hit with a pang of guilt, though Addison had found a magical way to make the guilt disappear.   The neo natal surgeon had left Seattle just hours previously and Izzie found herself nursing a cold beer at Joe’s bar. Her phone vibrated in her pocket, she had been expecting this call. Scooping the object from it’s resting place, she glanced at the ID and smiled lovingly before hitting the answer button and holding the phone to her ear.

“Hey.” She said, a sense of relief washing through her having realised Addison had landed safely the other end.

“Hey yourself.” The redhead purred down the line.

“I miss you already.” Izzie said sadly.

“Me too sweetheart, that’s the most time we’ve spent together since we’ve been together.” Addison surmised.

“Yeah.” The blonde sighed.

“Where are you?” Addison asked.

“Joe’s. I needed a beer.”

“It’s been a stressful couple weeks.” The redhead stated.  “But hey, five more days and you’ll be here.” Izzie had decided it was time to take a much earned break and found herself in the perfect situation with her girlfriend living in a house on the beach, far away from the dramas of Seattle Grace Hospital. It was also an ideal opportunity to spend more time with the woman she loved.

“Yeah I can’t wait, sun, sand, sea and ssssss . . .” the blonde teasingly dragged out the remaining word.

“Sex.” Addison concluded confidently.

“Well I was going to say sightseeing, but OK!” Izzie grinned.

“You’re such a tease.”

“And you’re so easy.”

“Only for you.” Addison laughed.

“I should hope so.” The blonde replied. “How was your journey?”

“I slept, I seem to recall not getting much sleep last night.” Addison flirted.

“Hey, not my fault, I was all for sleeping, but you were all up in face with your mesmerizing eyes and persuasive lips.”

“You didn’t take much persuading. You’re the easy one.” Addison chuckled lightly.

“I’ll tell you what’s easy.”  Izzie began wistfully.

“What’s that?”

“Us.” The blonde offered, “We’re easy, this relationship seems so effortless.”

“But what’s hard is this distance between us.” The redhead offered. Izzie sighed on the other end of the line in frustration, it seemed the issue would always be a problem between them.

“I’m sorry we didn’t get to talk properly while you were here Addie. I’m sorry that the more we fall for each other, the harder it is to be apart.”

“Don’t be sorry Iz.” Addison said with concern. “Five days, you’ll be here in five days. And hey, if we lived together, we’d hardly see each other for the crazy hours we work as doctors.”

“You’re right, but you brought it up remember?” the resident smirked on the other end of the line. Addison laughed at the accusation.

“Yes, yes I did.” She smiled. “Can we get onto a lighter topic now please?”

“Hmm.” Izzie thought. “I can think of a hot topic, but I’m going to have to go home first.”

“Oh I see.” Addison laughed, “Need a bit of privacy do we?”

“Of course.” Izzie agreed, standing from her bar stool. “I’m not much of an exhibitionist.” She smirked as she navigated her way through tables, chairs and drunken patrons.

“Good to hear. Now take me home Dr Stevens and have your wicked way with me.” The older woman breathed on the end.

“You can count on it.” Izzie replied, her pace picking up as she bolted out of the exit of Joe’s bar.

The sun was high in the blue, cloudless sky, beating down, causing the sand to burn beneath her feet as she padded closer toward the crashing waves of the ocean. She paddled carefully, letting the water gently lap up over the tops of her feet, the coolness of the water a relief from the heat. Izzie kicked at the waves as they approached, her head hung, concentration formed on her face as she watched her shadow moving across the shoreline as she walked. She stilled, taking a deep breath inhaling the sea air she turned toward the vast ocean before her. A smile tugged at her lips as she let out a sigh of contentment. Feeling the burn of the sun on her shoulders, she felt the need to top up her sunscreen and turned back toward the beach. Her eyes softened as she caught a glimpse of Addison exiting the house. Smiling coyly she made her way back up the sand, to the towel that had served as her sunbathing blanket.

“Hey there.” A voice dragged her from her reverie, slightly dazed. With a frown she glanced right, raising an eyebrow as she involuntarily praised the well built body before her, thankful for the sunglasses covering her appraising eyes.

“Umm, hi.” She offered.

“I’m Sam.” The stranger said, offering his hand.

“Errr . . .” Izzie hesitated.

“I live just there.” He said pointing to a house over his shoulder.

“Right. Izzie, I’m staying just there.” The blonde said pointing towards Addison’s house before taking his hand in a firm shake.

“Ah, so we’re temporary neighbours.” He said with a smirk. Izzie watched as his eyes raked slowly over her bikini clad body. Again the young woman raised an eyebrow, she knew her looks often garnered attention. “Oh hey Addison.” He said, greeting his neighbour as the redhead approached. “I was just introducing myself to your friend here.”

“I see.” Addison stated, Izzie stared at the other woman, unable to tear her eyes away from the incredibly toned body before her. “Izzie, I work with Sam.”

“Right.” The blonde managed, her attention drawn from Addison.

“Where are you from Izzie?” Sam asked.

“Seattle.” She said replied.

“Arh, so you guys used to work together?” enquired Sam. Izzie opened her mouth to respond before Addison cut in.

“Yeah.” She answered, offering no elaboration. Izzie frowned, wondering why Addison hadn’t introduced her as her girlfriend.

“My shoulders are burning.” Izzie blurted, the situation becoming awkward.

“Right, well I have to get back. You guys going to the party later?”

“Of course.” Addison replied, “Wouldn’t miss it.”

“Great, see you both then.”

“Bye.” The two women sang in unison as Sam headed back towards his house.  The blonde dropped onto the towel.

“You ok?” Addison asked tentatively.

“Fine.” Izzie replied shortly.

“Are you sure?” the redhead asked, kneeling down behind the blonde. She picked up the bottle of sunscreen and squeezed some of the lotion into her hands.

“Sam’s hot.” The blonde stated.

“Yeah, I guess.” Addison replied, her hands working in the cool lotion into Izzie’s shoulders.

“Why didn’t you introduce me as your girlfriend?” The redhead stopped, her brow furrowed.

“I don’t know.” She answered honestly.

“Because all of my friends in Seattle know about us Addison and you didn’t have a problem with that.” Izzie spat.

“I guess, I’ve known Sam since college, I’m not sure he even knows I could be dating a woman.” She said carefully. “Pete knows.”

“Yes, because he was trying to get in your pants.”

“Izzie.” Addison warned.

“No Addie. I love you, I really love you.” Izzie started, turning to face her lover, taking the older woman’s hands in her own. “I’ve had to deal with crap from my mother over this, what can be worse, really?” Addison bit her lip in thought. The sadness she could see in Izzie’s eyes near broke her heart.

“I hadn’t thought about it. I’ve been so wrapped up in us and being together in Seattle, I hadn’t even thought I would have to come out to my friends and colleagues at work.”

“This is real Addie.” Izzie pleaded.

“I know sweetheart.” Addison said, her sticky hand brushing against the blonde’s cheek. “I really love you too Izzie. Just,” she paused, “I don’t know.” She said shaking her head.

“This doesn’t have to be complicated.” The blonde offered lovingly.

“I know, I know.” Addison said with a sigh.

“Ok.” Izzie said, her eyes searching Addison’s confused blue orbs, “The life you have here right now is yours, I love you and I will support you. So, whatever you say, however you introduce me, I’ll go with it.” Addison squeezed the hands in her own, smiled and nodded her thanks.

“I’ll thank you properly inside.” Addison smirked.

“I’ll let you.” Izzie replied with a satisfied smile, she had come to realise that whilst it had been fairly easy for her to confide in her friends about her relationship with Addison, the redhead had only recently been reacquainted with her old friends and having been through a dramatic divorce with Derek, Izzie was prepared to wait and ensure Addison had a happy life as possible, even if it meant restraining herself and keeping her hands off of her girlfriend whilst her colleagues were around. A party involving alcohol and Addison in a hot dress, would definitely be a test of her restraint.

It was mean, and she knew it. Dressed in the tightest, shortest, most revealing dress she could find, Izzie admired herself in the full length mirror. Her hair hung loosely at her shoulders, her smouldering makeup accentuated her sultry eyes and enhanced her soft lips. The stiletto heels drew attention up her toned calves, her tanned thighs and met the hem of her off white dress. This is how Addison found her eyes travelling as she exited the bathroom, her mouth agape as she took in the beauty before her. Izzie smirked, ‘bingo’ she thought as she sauntered over to the redhead, gently lifting Addison’s chin to close her mouth. The blonde winked and leant in close, her breath caressing Addison’s ear as she whispered, “You’re catching flies dear.” She teased. Addison gulped.

The cab ride to the venue was less than uneventful. Addison could barely keep her hands to herself, it had been some time since she had seen the blonde dressed in such a fashion and all she wanted to do was rip the clothes from the blonde’s body. Izzie herself was finding it difficult to think coherently, Addison too was dressed to impress, Izzie hoped it was for her sole benefit, but knew the pride that the redhead took in her appearance every single day.  The neonatal surgeon’s choice of gown certainly complimented Izzie’s Tommy Hilfiger number, a simple, svelte light grey Armani evening dress, cut just above the knee and exposing just enough cleavage to leave the rest to the overactive imagination.  Addison’s soft hand lay upon the blonde’s thigh as the redhead was paying close attention to Izzie’s exposed neck. Her fingers inched higher up the toned leg before disappearing underneath the material of the dress. Izzie clamped her own hand down onto Addison’s wrist and begrudgingly pulled it away.

“Uh uh uhhhh.” She warned with a tut and slight shake of the head. “Best behaviour tonight, remember?” Izzie reminded her girlfriend with a husky lust filled tone.

“I don’t know if I can.” Addison replied breathless. “I’m drunk on you.” It caused a face splitting smile from the blonde, she was having the exact desired effect on the redhead as she intended.

“Time to sober up sweetheart, we’re here.” She said as the cab rolled to a stop. She handed the cab driver the fare, who was unable to look either woman in the eye and mumbled his thanks.

Addison took Izzie’s hand in her own and smiled at the loving brown eyes before diverting her attention and guiding her guest towards the bar. They semi faced one another as they stood waiting to order their drinks, Addison raking her eyes over her lover once again. Her attention was diverted as she felt a hand on her shoulder and looked over to see Naomi smiling back at her.

“Hey.” Greeted her friend with a gentle, polite kiss on the cheek.

“Hey Naomi.” Addison replied, “This is Izzie.” She said, turning and introducing her two friends.

“Arh, the friend from Seattle.” Naomi said with a warm smile, “It’s great to meet you, I’ve heard a lot about you.”

“You have?” Izzie asked with a frown.

“Don’t worry, Addison has nothing but praise for you, her greatest protégée she called you.” Naomi explained.

“Oh really?” Izzie asked, her gaze transfixed on the former attending.  Addison shrugged.

“You’re a great doctor and my favourite intern. I taught you well.” She concluded with a laugh.

“Addison Montgomery befriending interns, that’s so unlike you.” Naomi said with a laugh.

“Hey you make it sound like I’m a snob.”

“You used to be,in New York, I see the bohemian lifestyle in Seattle has changed you somewhat.” Naomi dared. Again the redhead shrugged her shoulders.

“Maybe it wasn’t the lifestyle, maybe it was the people.” Izzie suggested, “We were the best group of interns any attending could ask for.”

“Or maybe it was one.” Addison said with a glint in her eye and a sincere smile at the blonde. Izzie blushed under her former supervisor’s gaze and sighed with relief when the bar tender asked for her order. Naomi frowned at the exchange, opened her mouth to speak before another presence cut in.

“Ladies. Nice to see you again, Izzie.”  Both Addison and Naomi groaned.

“Hi Sam.” Addison replied. Izzie turned and grinned, this was her opportunity to make the redhead squirm.

“Sam, hey, great to see you, can I get you a drink?”

“I’d love a beer. Thanks.”

“Watch that one Addison, I think my ex-husband is quite taken with her already.” Naomi stated.

“Naomi, a drink?” Izzie said as she handed Sam a beer, his fingers purposely brushing against the smiling blonde’s.

“No, thanks, I’m good.” Izzie turned back to the bar and retrieved her own beer and Addison’s Martini.

“A girl after my own heart. Cheers.” Sam said as he clashed his bottle against Izzie’s.

“Cheers.” Izzie said enthusiastically, chancing a look at a scowling Addison.

“Where is everyone?” Addison asked.

“We got a table over there, you coming over?” Naomi asked.

“Yeah.” Addison replied, she started to move, halting when she realised the blonde was not beside her. She turned to look at Izzie, who now had Sam attached to her side, talking animatedly, the blonde laughing at his words and over emphasised hand gestures. “Izzie?” she called loudly. Guilty brown eyes looked up and met her own.

“Coming.” Izzie replied with a hint of an apology, though really, all she was doing was talking, if Sam found her attractive, well that was something she couldn’t control. The resident ambled after Addison, Sam following closely, his free hand swinging and occasionally brushing the blonde’s arm. Izzie sighed, this could end badly she thought to herself as the only two seats left were next to each other and the opposite end of the table from Addison. The redhead had hoped Izzie would follow her to the other two unoccupied seats, however, Naomi had other ideas and promptly sat beside her colleague.

After brief introductions, several drinks and an insane amount of conversation and laughter, Addison’s eyes found themselves travelling toward her girlfriend once again. Sam was leaning close to the blonde, a hand on her thigh as he talked into Izzie’s ear, the increased volume in music making it difficult for conversation to flow easily. Addison scowled, as if feeling the eyes upon her, Izzie looked up at the redhead, an apologetic plea etched on her features. Visibly disturbed, Addison shook her head and leapt from her seat, immediately bumping into Pete.

“How’s it going?” He asked, his eyes sneaking a glance over to the blonde. Addison sighed.

“She’s doing it on purpose.” Addison spat.

“Is she? Because Sam can be quite the charmer, you should know that.”

“I am aware of that. But she’s mad at me because I haven’t told anyone about us.” The redhead explained.

“I genuinely don’t think she’s leading him on Addie, not intentionally anyway.” Pete offered, genuine concern in his eyes. “Yeah she’s hot, yeah I’m jealous that she’s with you, but I know how happy she makes you.”

“Thanks Pete.” Addison said, placing a hand on his arm and offering a thankful smile. “She told me she loves me.” The redhead said with a wistful gaze. “Last week, when I was in Seattle, it was perfect.” She reminisced.

“So what are you afraid of?” Pete asked. “You told me and I was fine.”

“I told you because you wanted to get in my pants.” Addison laughed, Pete laughed with her.

“And I think Sam wants to get in your girl’s pants.” He observed as Sam, stroked Izzie’s cheek. The blonde pulled back slightly, shaking her head. Addison took the opportunity and swept in, taking the blonde’s hand in her own and pulling her out of her seat.

“Addison, what the hell . . .” Sam began. The older woman held up her hand to cut him off.

“I just need a minute with Izzie.” She replied. Izzie looked at the redhead, unable to gage the emotions in her blue eyes, for the first time in a long time, Izzie was unable to read the other woman.

“Addie?” Izzie asked tentatively. Addison pulled Izzie through the crowds until she found a small, recently vacated booth and sat them both down on the bench. “I’m sorr . . . .” the blonde began, only to be cut off by Addison’s lips on her own in a chaste kiss.

“No.” Addison started, “I’m sorry. That hurt, that really hurt seeing him all over you.”

“I didn’t . . .” Izzie began again.

“I know, you’re not interested and you weren’t leading him on, you’re friendly, you’re lovely, people warm to you so easily, but the thought of him with his hands on you, I just, I can’t even . . .”

“Hey.” Izzie said, taking Addison’s face in her hands. “I love you.”

Addison tentatively gazed into the blonde’s concerned brown eyes, Izzie could feel Addison's warm breath caressing her cheek. She caught the sparkle in the former attending's crystal clear blue eyes. Chocolate brown eyes darted downwards, she looked at Addison's inviting lips, the gaze didn't go unnoticed by the older woman whose eyelids grew heavy, her own stare drifted to Izzie's plush, soft lips. The blonde looked up momentarily, meeting Addison's orbs once again. The redhead moved closer, Izzie too edged nearer, they both closed their eyes in anticipation, the gravitational pull was too strong. Finally their lips met in a climax of emotions. Izzie's lips stroked the redhead's with a tenderness and love she had become so accustomed to with Addison. Izzie stroked the cheeks in her hands gently while using her tongue to prise Addison's smooth lips apart and slowly explored her partner's mouth. Their tongues began a slow foxtrot, full of passion and promise, both were completely lost in the other.  Addison pulled away reluctantly, the need to breath suddenly too real.

“I love you too.” She breathed. She watched Izzie’s face light up in a beautiful smile. “You want to get out of here?” she asked.

“Hell yeah.” Izzie said excitedly jumping to her feet. Addison followed suit, taking Izzie’s hand in her own and dragging her over to the table to retrieve their purses. Izzie’s free hand stroked up and down Addison’s bare arm, needing to feel the redhead’s soft skin beneath her fingertips.  As they approached the table, Addison leaned over and collected both purses from the centre of the table, locking eyes with Pete, a knowing smirk adorning his features. His eyes travelled to their joined hands, his eyes sparkled and raised an eyebrow. The redhead rolled her eyes as she retreated.

“Izzie, can I get you another drink?” Sam had asked, whilst Addison’s back was turned.

“No thank you.” She replied curtly.

“Is this because of Addison?” he asked, just as his colleague turned around to face the pair.

“Is what because of Addison?” the redhead asked with a snarl. Izzie squeezed Addison’s hand, calming her somewhat. She knew Sam wasn’t malicious, he was just a regular red blooded male and for all he knew Izzie was fair game. Izzie was also stunning and friendly, her nature could be perceived as naturally flirtatious.

“I’m sorry Sam.” Izzie began, “You’re a really nice guy, but I’m just not interested. I’m seeing someone.” She concluded. She felt Addison’s hand in her own tighten before slipping from her fingers. The redhead snaked her arm around Izzie’s waist and hugged her close.

“She’s with me.” Addison stated nervously.

“Yeah, I know she’s staying with you.” Sam replied with a frown.

“No Sam.” Izzie placed a hand on his shoulder, “We’re together, we’re dating each other.” She explained.

“Keep up fella.” Pete shouted across the table. Addison smirked at her friend.

“Oh right, I’m sorry.”

“Nooo, I’m sorry Sam.” Addison began, “I should have been upfront from the start.”

“It’s ok Addison, you don’t have to explain.” He said, “Well, you will when I’m sober.” He laughed nervously.

“Look.” Addison addressed the table, all eyes had already landed on the couple and what had transpired, “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you guys sooner, this is new to me, well, Izzie is new, actually no, this relationship with Izzie is new and we live quite far apart and I wanted to be sure we were serious. But at the same time I didn’t know how you guys would react.” She paused and thought for a moment, “I’ve never been happier here, with you guys and then I have Izzie too which started after I moved here and till she visited the two things still seemed separate somehow. But we’re here, together and you guys like her and I love her and I know now I had nothing to worry about. So this is it, I’m with Izzie.”

“Wow, you actually get a coming out speech.” Izzie cooed in Addison’s ear, “I’m so jealous. But so turned on.”

“Let’s go home.” Addison said, ignoring the gossiping on the table before her. “I have two things I have to do and one of them is you.” She smirked as she dragged her younger lover toward the door. She took one last look at her friends and smiled, they all seemed happy enough and carried on as if nothing had happened. ‘Perfect’ Addison thought before making Izzie her next task.

Izzie rolled over and gazed lovingly at the naked woman beside her.

“You are amazing.” She purred as she inched closer to the other woman.

“You make me amazing. You know what they say about sports, you perform better when competing with others of better ability.”

“Arh, there’s a flaw there.” Izzie said, as she kissed Addison gently on the lips. “We’re not competing, we’re on the same team.” The redhead laughed and then shrugged.

“Same rules apply, you up your game in the presence of greatness.”

“Mmm,” Izzie thought for a moment, “I’ll go with that.” She said earning a playful swat from Addison.

“Are you happy?” Addison asked, her arm creeping over the blonde’s taut stomach, head resting on her shoulder.

“Very. I love it here, it’s so relaxed.”

“You’re on vacation.” The former attending noted.

“Yeah but, what do you think, it seems more laid back here, you seem more relaxed than you ever were in Seattle. And the sun shines pretty much every day right?”

“Yeah, it’s close to perfection.” Addison said. “The only thing missing is you.”

“What if . . .” Izzie began carefully, “what if I moved to LA?”

“You would do that?” Addison asked.

“If you wanted me to.” The blonde stated.

“I would love you to.” She beamed and rolled on top of the blonde.

“I could try get a job in a hospital.” Izzie suggested.

“Done, I have contacts here.” Addison stated with an air of authority.

“I would like to get a job on my own merits Addison.” Izzie warned, but kissed her partner nonetheless.

“Ok, I’ll put in a recommendation, no more, I promise.” The redhead stated, “I just want you here so we can date and do proper coupley stuff.”

“Me too.” Izzie said, reaching up for another kiss. “We can go apartment hunting tomorrow.” Izzie squealed with excitement. Addison giggled at her girlfriend’s enthusiasm.

“Sure babe.” Agreed Addison, “But I just have to do something quickly.” Izzie groaned as the cool air hit her torso, the warmth of the other woman’s body now absent. The blonde watch as Addison donned a silken robe and left the room. “I’ll be right back, keep the bed warm.” She called behind her.

Izzie’s cell phone beeped beside her. She picked up the phone and opened the message, laughing and grinning stupidly as she did so.

“Oh.My.God.” Shrieked Meredith. The whole table turned to look at the mousy haired doctor at the end of the table, eyes glued to the mobile device in her hand.

“She’s been unbearable since she discovered Facebook on that thing.” Derek said with an eye roll and a sip of beer. “It’s nauseating.”

“Hey, Bookface is very informative thank you.” Meredith defended.

“You’re starting to sound like Izzie.” Cristina observed.

“Are you going to tell us what has your panties in a twist?” Alex asked.

“It’s official.” She stated proudly.

“What is?” Derek asked.

“Izzie Stevens is in a relationship with Addison Montgomery.” She said, “Bookface says it, so it must be true.” She said with a shrug.

“Oh.My.God.” Alex yelled, his eyes glued to his own cell phone.

“What?” All heads turned toward Izzie’s former beau.

“Izzie’s status . . . apartment hunting tomorrow, anyone want to give me a job in LA?”

“Well,” Meredith started, “look at the power of that Bookface Thing.” She concluded to a wave of nodding heads.
