Addison had kept her eye on Izzie the whole time. She could see the shadows beneath the blonde’s usually sparkly bright brown eyes indicating stress and tiredness. Addison regretted Izzie hadn’t called her sooner, she would have moved heaven and earth to have been with Izzie when she needed her the most. Yet here she was looking at a physically and emotionally drained woman.

“Take a picture.” Izzie said, her focus concentrated on the plate of food she was sifting her fork through. She looked up into concerned blue eyes. “It’ll last longer.” She added with a small smile.

“I’m concerned.” Addison said, placing her own knife and fork on the plate. She picked up the glass of wine and took a short sip, allowing the claret liquid to burn a path down her throat.

“I appreciate that.” Izzie said with a genuine warmth. “It’s ok, it’s all going to be fine.”

“You’re not going back to the hospital tonight and you’re not working tomorrow.” Addison stated sternly. Izzie sighed. She dropped the fork onto her plate and leaned back in her chair, her hands clasping over her stomach. She looked intently at Addison. She was being serious.

“I understand your concern, but you can’t stop me from seeing my Mom or going to work.” The blonde said firmly.

“Izzie.” Addison sighed. She bit her lip briefly before continuing. “It’s late, you don’t need to see her tonight. You heard Dr Bailey, the worst is over, let me take you home and help you unwind and relax.” Izzie smirked at the latter statement, to which Addison raised an eyebrow. “You need sleep Izzie, not an intense physical work out. Besides, if you do break from work, then you could be rewarded.” Addison added coyly.

“Well I guess that’s all the incentive I need.” The blonde confirmed with smile. She sat upright and leaned on the table. Her hand reached forward and took a hold of the redhead’s. “Thank you.”

“You’re very welcome.” The older woman replied. “Do you . . .” Addison drawled in ponder. “Do you erm . . .” It was seldom Addison became nervous or unsure of her words. Izzie found it terribly endearing and gave the soft hand in hers a gentle squeeze of encouragement. The redhead took a deep breath before continuing. “Do you want to check into a hotel or do you want us to stay at yours?” Addison asked quickly. Izzie’s face looked puzzled for a moment.

“Erm, I don’t know, I hadn’t thought about it, I guess I just assumed you would stay with me, but if you’re not comfortable . . .”

“No, it’s not, it’s, I guess I just thought you could completely switch off if we checked into a hotel room.” Addison suggested. “And we can totally spoil ourselves in our own haven.”

“It sounds perfect.” Izzie replied. “ But are you sure you’re not avoiding certain people?” the blonde pried. Addison blushed, there was no way she could lie to the adorable young woman sat across from her.

“Busted.” She said with a smile.

“I’ll start looking for somewhere else to live.” Izzie said casually as she picked up her glass to take a sip. Addison frowned at this sudden, random revelation.

“Iz, you don’t have to do that.” She said. The blonde shrugged nonchalantly.

“I was thinking about it anyway, it can get too busy there sometimes.” She explained. “And then it can kinda be our place I guess. If you want.” She said with her head bowed, afraid to look up. When she was met with a wall of silence she dared a glance. Addison was looking at her intently, a wide smile plastered across her face. Izzie breathed a sigh of relief, taking the silence as a negative response. She opened her mouth to speak. Addison cut her off immediately.

“Now look at me and ask me.” She demanded gently, her fingers playing idly with the stem of her wine glass, the still firmly attached to Izzie’s.

“I want to get a place we can call our own when you come to visit. It’ll be like your home too. What do you say?” Izzie asked nervously.

“I say I love the idea.” Addison grinned.

“I want to find a place quickly, I want Mom to stay with me when she’s discharged.” Izzie said. “Until she’s well enough to go home.” Addison smiled with adoration.

“She’s lucky to have you.” The redhead observed. “As am I.” She concluded with a raised suggestive eyebrow. The blonde blushed, being complimented by Addison remained a new and exciting thing for her, yet she was still shy and felt slightly undeserving of the words despite Addison constantly reassuring her. The young woman was unused to such genuine heartfelt attention.

“Thank you.” Izzie said.

“You’re welcome.”

“And for the whole Facebook thing.” Izzie said. Addison frowned with confusion, the look on her face caused Izzie to giggle before explaining. “The relationship thing.”

“Arh yes.” Addison said through a wide smile. “I’m in a happy relationship, people should know.”

“Buuuuut,” Izzie drawled, “They don’t know you’re in a relationship with me.”

“Nooooo.” Addison mimicked the tone in Izzie’s voice, “I need to tell my parents I’m in a relationship with a stunningly beautiful woman before I can announce it on Facebook.”

“I see what you did there.” The blonded nodded with a wink. “You softened the blow with compliments.”

“I forgot to mention incredibly intelligent.” Addison laughed.

“When Mom wakes up I’m going to tell her.”

“How do you think she’ll react?” the redhead asked. Izzie shrugged in response before speaking.

“She’s known about flings with women I’ve had in the past.”

“Is that what this is? A fling?” Addison looked hurt, she tugged her hand away from Izzie’s and straightened the napkin in her lap.

“No!” exclaimed Izzie, “God no, it’s a relationship. We’re in a relationship. You have me feeling things I’ve never felt with anyone before, it’s real, it’s special.” Addison relaxed in her chair, slightly embarrassed by her panic of insecurity. “Don’t ever feel any different Addie, don’t believe that this is anything less than a relationship because you’re amazing and I love every minute I spend with you and I loathe every minute I’m away from you.”

“Me too.” Addison said quietly. Her hand made its way to the table once again and she entwined her finger’s with the blonde’s.  The blue eyes of the older woman looked sincerely into the tired brown eyes of the blonde. Even sleep deprived, Izzie was still the most beautiful woman Addison had ever set eyes upon and it was only when she was with her, feeling her, seeing her, smelling her that she believed it was real. She constantly found herself daydreaming about the young doctor, when she was at work, cooking her dinner, when she would drift off to sleep. There was not a moment she didn’t think of her. Izzie stifled a yawn, although the next attempt was less successful and she let out a tired moan along with it. Addison smiled fondly and rubbed her tumb over the back of Izzie’s hand.

“Let’s pick up some of your stuff and get checked in. You look like you could do with a nice hot bath and a good night’s sleep.” The redhead said.

“And a cuddle, don’t forget the cuddle.” Izzie smiled.

“Of course, how could I forget?” Addison laughed. The redhead called over the waiter for the check and dutifully paid as Izzie willed her eyes to stay open. She stood wearily, holding onto Addison for dear life, afraid that if she would let go she would fall. Having Addison by her side was the tonic she needed. So many emotions had the young woman tied in knots, Addison’s sheer presence gave her a wealth of relief, many of the blonde’s concerns had been her girlfriend’s absence. As they walked arm in arm toward the exit, Izzie lay her weary head upon Addison’s shoulder as the redhead wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her closer, a silent promise to never let go.

“Iz, Izzie, sweetheart wake up.” The gentle voice was finding it difficult to penetrate her brain. She had fallen asleep in the tub, the heat of the water, the candle light, the hypnotic strokes of Addison’s fingers upon her bare skin and the physical exertion previous had her drift into an easy nap. Addison squeezed her arms tighter around the blonde and spoke louder into her ear. “Izzie, darling, wake up.” The blonde stirred, encouraging Addison to continue. “Time to get out the tub Iz, you’re turning wrinkly.” She threatened with a small chuckle.

“Don’t want to.” Izzie stropped.

“Come on, the sooner we get out and dry we can get into bed.” Addison promised.

“I like wet naked Addison.” The blonde said, her hands rubbing the redhead’s legs. The redhead moaned, enjoying the feel of Izzie’s hands upon her sensitive skin.

“I know and you showed me just how much before you fell asleep.” Izzie grinned, her eyes still closed, very satisfied with herself just how much she had Addison begging for more and calling her name. The blonde yawned.

“I’m tired.” She said quietly.

“And that’s your cue to get up Miss Stevens.”

“Ok, ok.” Izzie said, steadily getting to her feet and stepping out of the bath tub.  The blonde stood and turned to help her lover from the water. “Stop staring and take my hand.” Izzie warned, “I’m getting cold here.” She finished with a visible shiver. It was then the redhead took a hold of the resident’s hand and hoisted herself up. Izzie prepared a towel and wrapped the older woman in it as she stepped out onto the tiled floor, giving her a tight hug and a rub before seeking her own towel. Addison grinned and leant forward, she captured Izzie’s lips in a sweet tender kiss. Both pairs of eyes fluttered closed as they continued with the intimate gesture.

The redhead pulled away and raised a questioning eyebrow at the pout Izzie was now wearing. The blonde placed her head on Addison’s shoulder.

“I’m so glad you’re here.” The blonde said into Addison’s towel.

“Me too.”

“I’m sorry you have to watch me deal with all this Mom stuff while you’re here, you should be relaxing and having fun.”

“Hey.” Addison stepped away slightly, forcing Izzie’s head to lift from it’s resting place. “I’m not watching you Iz, I’m helping you, I’m supporting you and I’m with you. Besides, there’s plenty of time to have fun.”

“This is why I’m falling in love with you.” Izzie proclaimed with an air of thoughtfulness and honesty. She said it so earnestly whilst looking directly into Addison’s sparkling blue eyes. The redhead threw open her arms, her towel flying off in the process, Izzie opened her own towel, inviting Addison in. The redhead nuzzled her nose into the crook of Izzie’s neck. Her arms were wrapped tightly around Izzie, the huge bath towel now blanketing them both. The blonde pondered for a moment, wondering if the silence should be awkward, but it wasn’t. The young doctor had all but declared her growing love for the older woman, yet Addison was yet to say anything.  The closeness of Addison however spoke volumes, the feel of her soft skin against her own was a sensation she would never tire of. And just when she thought this was it, Addison raised her head, their noses mere millimetres apart.

“I am hopelessly falling for you too.”

To be continued . . .

First of all, happy new year :-)

Second, such a wonderful surprise to wake up to. I liked the fluffiness of the chapter and the deeper feelings on both their parts. I like the fact that Izzie is aware of Addison's discomfort with 'some' people and is thoughtful enough that she wants to look for a place they can call theirs. I like that hint for commitment and how they both kind of took it as another small step for a future together.

I love the declaration of love at the end. Really curious how you're going to pull off this long-distance thing.

My only complaint? It was too short... at the end of the chapter I was like, 'No!!!! I want more!!'

Thanks for writing and sharing :-)

Thank you to you too :)

I think they deserved a little TLC and yeah, they're looking forward. The long distance thing will certainly be a challenge, it's already been an issue.

I'm sorry it was so short, I'm going to do my best to not leave it so long this time!
